Mazda Press Conference At Geneva 2006
Dan Morris, Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer in charge of Marketing, Sales and Customer Service, Mazda Motor Corporation & James Muir, President and CEO of Mazda Motor Europe, opened up proceedings to its first Motor Show of 2006 at Geneva.
Both outlined new product releases, stating that Mazda will showcase its strongest ever line up at this years show.
Riding on the back of a strong financial year, Mazda forcast a 7 per cent global increase to 1.2 million units with 11 markets on track to establish all time records in fiscal year 2005, was also predicted.
Here's the opening speech in full:
Dan Morris
Good morning ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to begin by thanking you for joining James and I as we unveil some exciting new products for Mazda.
James Muir
Hello from me too. Before we pull these covers off, we would like to share a few things with you.
Dan Morris
We’re proud to present the healthiest Mazda ever. A Mazda with its strongest showroom lineup in history. A Mazda whose Zoom-Zoom brand continues to gain Momentum. A Mazda that is on its strongest financial footing ever. And a Mazda with the brightest future yet to come. And products like these you see here and those planned for the future are going to help ensure that we continue this Momentum.
Globally, Mazda is forecasting a sales increase of 7 percent to approximately 1.2 million units with 11 markets on track to establish all time records in fiscal year 2005. Our consolidated revenues are also projected to increase 7 percent to over 20 billion Euros, with full fiscal year Operating Profit expected to climb 42 percent to 828 million Euros, which will be an all time record. Now, that’s Zoom-Zoom!
James Muir
The European market continues to play a pivotal role in Mazda Motor Corporation’s global future and represents nearly a third of Mazda’s global sales and profits.
Over the past 12 months we’ve been rolling out the Mazda 5, the upgraded Mazda 6, the all-new MX-5 and more recently, the 250-plus horsepower Mazda 6 MPS model.
Our distribution network strategy sees us expanding our network of sales companies into key growth markets such as Russia and Ireland - and, as recently announced, the Czech Republic & Slovakia during 2006.
Dan Morris
Besides the exciting new cars, which we will reveal shortly, the Mazda Kabura showcased behind you is having its European debut here in Geneva.
At the Frankfurt Motor Show last fall, we presented the Mazda Sassou, a B-segment car designed by our European studio specifically for our European consumers.
At November’s Tokyo Motor Show, our Japanese design studio presented the Mazda Senku, a sportscar designed in Japan, with a rich visual expression. They could not be more different to look at, yet both are undeniably Zoom-Zoom.
Following it’s global debut at the NAIAS (National American International Auto Show) in Detroit two months ago, it’s our pleasure to show the third concept vehicle in the trilogy today. A car designed by our American design studio in Irvine, California under the leadership of Franz von Holzhausen: the Mazda Kabura.
Mazda Kabura refers to the first arrow launched into battle and is Mazda’s signal to our competitors that the battle is on for younger customers.
Stylish, insightful and spirited, this car is no mere flight of fantasy. While we are not planning on producing Mazda Kabura, there are many features that just may see their way onto our future production cars.
James Muir
But vehicles which will certainly soon be seen on European roads and in other countries worldwide, are waiting under the covers here. This range of exciting products is the backbone of Mazda sales and has spearheaded Mazda’s growth beyond our initial expectations. Mazda 3 has undergone some significant changes. Today, you will see a further enhanced, sophisticated Mazda 3 that raises the standard in this segment.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we give you the new Mazda 3 lineup.
The new Mazda 3 hatchback and sedan models reflect refined design, craftsmanship, utility and safety and even better driving performance and fuel consumption, thanks to engine and transmission upgrades.
The new Mazda 3 MPS, which will also be known as Mazdaspeed 3 and Mazdaspeed Axela in other parts of the world, is our new hot hatch with a double-dose of Zoom-Zoom; it is the ‘ultimate’ sports compact.
