Is This The New Hyundai Amica?
According to a press release on Hyundai India's website, the company has exported 850 Santro Xing's which will be rebranded as the new Amica.
A statement on the website by HMI president, Mr BVR Subbu says: “Though this is HMI’s first consignment to the UK, our cars are already popular in other parts of the EU. In fact, Europe accounts for almost half of HMI’s total exports."
"The UK order is yet another endorsement of the consistently high quality standards, and global technology of our cars.”
Looking nothing like the recent spyshots that have been reported, the new Amica looks more like a rehash of the old model instead of the rumoured Picanto styled design.
If this is the best Hyundai can offer and the news is true, then i think the boat should turn around now or someone should at least try to sink it.
The reason I say if this is true is that something doesn't add up here, the website is quoting the Santro Xing as having a wheelbase of 3565mm where as the Picanto has a wheelbase of 3495mm, the same as the old Amica. And width and height don't match up either. So either Hyundai are playing a clever trick by trying to throw off the press, or those spyshots of the new Amica were false, and this really is coming to the UK.
Hyundai issued an embargo on its dealer network not to advertise or discuss with its customers about the up and coming Amica. So we'll just have to wait and see.
