Global premiere of the Mazda Senku 4-seater concept at Tokyo Motor Show.

Mazda Motor Corporation showcases the global premiere of Mazda SENKU, a four-seater concept car that reflects a new direction for sports cars, at this year’s 39th Tokyo Motor Show. The name “Senku” is a Japanese term meaning “pioneer”, depicting Mazda’s spirit of pursuing unique and exciting ventures such as the rotary engine.

Mazda SENKU is a four-seater concept car that clearly demonstrates how Mazda continues to offer new and unique driving qualities in the face of increasing enviromental and saftey requirements and diversifying customer demands. Its overarching design concept is “sharpness and mellowness”, and these contradictory factors are cleverly integrated to create a next-generation design standard.

Mazda SENKU’s key design features include and ultra-long wheelbase, minimal overhangs, a unique ‘floating’ appearance supported by large tyres, a smoothly dignified shape, and large ‘flying wing’ electric-powered sliding doors.

These dynamic elements come together in a revolutionary coupe format that is both dynamic and supremely elegant. In the cabin, personal space is designed to give priority to the people seated in the front seats, while interior trim is finished in supple, high quality leather.

Located between the front and rear axles is the next-generation 13B-DI direct injection gasoline rotary engine with a hybrid unit. This direct injection RE hybrid achieves high power output and lower fuel consumption. Mazda SENKU also boasts perfect 50:50 front/rear weight distribution and a low centre of gravity – a well known characteristic of Mazda sports cars, which provides fun and dynamic driving.
