The Scottish Car of the Year Awards 2005 has named Mazda 5 ‘Best MPV’ beating rivals Vauxhall Zafira and Honda FR-V. The ‘Best MPV’ title is the second award for Mazda 5 following its MPV of the Year award from MPV and 4×4 Driver magazine in September.
“A flexible interior design, with seating for up to seven, and the added attraction of sliding rear doors, aren’t the only reasons for considering this model: it also drives with the sort of sporting bias that is not typically associated with fully flexible people movers. The fact that it is built to cope with children simply strengthens the Mazda 5′s case,” commented Scottish Car of the Year Awards President Ally Ballingall.
Mazda UK marketing director Mark Cameron added: “We are thrilled to be named Scottish Car of the Year’s ‘Best MPV’.This is a sign that Mazda 5 is already starting to turn heads, putting that much needed Zoom‑Zoom back into an otherwise dull vehicle segment.”
Mazda has just reported strong sales in Scotland with its highest September sales month ever at 1,078 vehicle registrations bringing the year to date total to 4,072. Market share in Scotland was also at an all-time September high at 2.90 per cent for September and 2.47 per cent year to date, thanks to the continued success of volume models Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 and the introduction of the Mazda 5 already making an impact in Scotland.
