VXR Power Comes To The Zafira

THE Zafira is the latest Vauxhall to get the VXR treatment, resulting in a seven-seat mini-MPV with 237bhp and a top speed of 144mph.

The Zafira VXR goes on sale in October with a price tag of £21,995. It has a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine which will accelerate from 0-62mph in 7.2 seconds, using a six-speed manual gearbox. It has uprated chassis and brakes and the usual VXR styling cues such as a honeycomb front grille, bigger alloy wheels and a bodykit.

The Zafira VXR costs £220 more than the equivalent GSi from the previous range, but has an extra 39bhp.

Vauxhall are not the only manufacturer to be maxing out their everyday showroom models to draw more sales from the more expensive marque’s such as BMW, Mercedes and Audi. In fact Mazda are hot on thier heels with their forth coming Mazda 6 MPS and 3 MPS hot hatchback. So with this in mind, don’t be suprised to see the all new Mazda 5 MPV getting the Mazda Performance Series treatment anytime soon.
